butters, just leave that alone and don't touch it.

unless you want to fail emissions. everyone has been saying the bypass is easy to do and i've been arguing that unless a saint comes and does it for me, it doesn't work.

so just leave it alone.

I just took away the evap.

But I guess thats bad if you have emissions tests. Luckily I don't.

^ i've been arguing and i will argue it again and again until someone does some esperimenting. in my auto the gears would shift wrong when i yanked it, then connected it using all DIY methods except mine. next i got a CEL coming from 02 sensors and evap which the sensors were working just fine meaning i was running rich.

removal of the evap does affect performance. you 5-speed guys should check if you're running richer than normal because of it, and that will decrease your power. the only reason you don't feel it is because you control your gears, not the machine. you won't feel a powerloss because it will be so small you won't know what to even notice. with automatic it was purely evident the transmission did not know what gear it should be in, i mean it would go crazy like it was psycho, 3, 2, 4, 1, N, 1, N...

LONG story, but i finally got my battery adapter ordered and my sister's old ass laptop so i'll finally be able to prove something using Jay-M's scantool. it reads everything that's going on in the engine and evap, and i can take snapshots. reason i wasn't able to is because i didn't have or know anybody with a laptop.

the best thing to do is remove the cannister whole, get another solenoid, cut the solenoid female plug out, build wires into it and plug it in the old connector so everything is reversible. i'll show you what i mean if this laptop thing doesn't work.

i'd warn you not to touch the thing. nobody here has ever moved it from the front to the back.

^^ that's wierd. The O2 sensors, MAF, TPS, and IAT control the af ratio. I didn't think there was anything in the evap that could do that.

Isn't the evap there to turn fuel vapors into liquid and put it back into the fuel system?

Could it be that relocating the evap canister higher then where it is supposed to be causes improper flow in the evap system? Or maybe that the longer hoses causes too much pressure?

that's what i thought too! the transmission would act crazy only when i hadn't had the cannister hooked up. it has to do with the pressure in the gas tank because when i unscewed the gas cap it would suck in air like a vacum until all the pressure was gone.

then i extended the hoses successfully with evap can hooked up, and the car even ran normal before the swap. i also lost the CEL. problem is i still failed emissions because apparently those two codes are still in the computer but there is no damn CEL!! there's a LONG story that i don't want to write about what i think caused the emissions failure, but i think i've got it all sorted out.

nobody here believed me, i wish i could have gotten a video of all of this. but then nobody here has ever ever ever done this on an automatic. and on a 5 speed you wouldn't notice a decrease in power because the transmission has nothing to do with gas tank pressure.

i truly belieeve all 5speed guys who have done this are running rich.

hi guys
i want to put in a aem style cai this weekend but this thing is in the way of the filter.
i read the diy post about moving it up to where the air intake used to be and was planning on doing that. after reading this im once again confused and worried about doing this. am i right to be worried?

hang on i just read that link and it says that only 97 tibs have this device, mine is a 2001 rd2 and it looks like i have it too. why is this??????????

extending the hoses whouldnt make any difference at all if on the 98 99 ones the hoses run all the way to the back. right? noone has ever takon one from a newer tib and put it in a 97? i know everyone wants a newer tib than 99 but i would think someone has had the same delema i have. i figure instead of "chopping" it all up and making it fit, wouldnt it be better to have it in the location of the 98 99's? i thought that it would be better. maybe not?
