high rpm's?
Hey guys, just had a question. I have a 2001 Tiburon 5 spd and when I am in 5th gear, the rpm's are around 3,000 when I am going 60 mph and only go up from there, to almost 4,000 at around 80 mph. It sounds like I should have to shift to another gear but there obviously isn't another. Is this normal?

60mph = 3k rpm. 80mph = 4k rpm. Redline = ---mph (can't tell you!)
Perfectly normal. Our powerband doesn't really hit until 4k (very noticable with the 1.8L cam), and below 3k there isn't but so much power. Because of this, our RPMs are significantly higher than other cars.
So weird in the Jeep that I'm borrowing - rpms normally don't go over 2k. Ever. 65mph is about 1700rpm... I frequently find myself just below 1k a lot!

I went from a Dodge Dakota, that sat comfortably at 1500rpm at interstate speeds, to a BMW 318i with a 4.10 rear end, which was 4500rpm or so at interstate speeds. Talk about a huge difference! I did the same thing, get scared that there was something wrong with the vehicle.
