Default Gen3 V6 Delta Info...

Got my grubby little hands on one today.

Stock Throttle Body Butterfly is only 50 MM. The MAF is 3" or 76mm. Gee...guess where the restriction is....

There are 2 seperate intake resonators. One before the MAF, and a baby resonator AFTER the MAF. (photos to follow).

The exhaust tubing is only 2"
The 1-2 split for the dual exhaust is nasty, and makes the primary exhaust pipe the DRIVERS SIDE. (yes...more flow comes out the drivers side tailpipe than the passenger side pipe)

I also learned some tips and tricks that I'll document in photo form later tonight.

Oh...one last thing. It responds rather well to a Random Special CAI (3")....*evil grin* The CAI will work on either auto or 6-speed V6's, as the CAI goes nowhere NEAR the tranny.

I'll have a dyno of the V6 stock and the V6 with the RS CAI for GEN3 on the May 18th Dyno day...unfortunately...it is an Auto Tranny, so I don't expect as big of gains as with the 6 speed...but we will have to wait and see...

If everyone is nice....I'll even post photos and instructions of how to make the RS CAI for the Gen3...

excellent info thank you. Now let's see what can be done as far as modifications to it. Waiting for parts to go on sale.

Random,

The V6 probably has alot of room for gains with a good air intake and a real exhaust.

Is that not the WORST exhaust system you have ever seen? The guys who approved and designed that 1-2 split should be beaten with the hammer that was used to "design" that exhaust.

From scoping out the car, It looks to me...

#1 upgrade.. CAI
#2. Bored out TB
#3. Bored out Intake Manifold, possible just replace that POS.
#4. Cat back with a DECENT Y split for the 2 mufflers, or just a single exhaust.
#5. Headers and relocate cats

Just doing those mods should see a HUGE increase in performance for the Delta. What they were thinking with a 76mm MAF but only a 50MM throttle body. What they were thinking with an intake manifold plenum that is smaller than the I4 beta...I just don't know...

GRRRRR</div>The TB is 2mm bigger than the I4. It is the intake manifold plenum (the big tube that attaches to each intake runner) that is smaller than the I4.

I'm thinking that if you were to send your TB and IM to Onpol, he could probably bore it out for ya. The cost might not be the same as the I4 bore job, but I'm guessing it should be fairly close. If you ship along a intake manifold gasket, he should also be able to do the gasket match porting as well. Then I would consider having the IM extrude Hone'd.

I'll post up the photos and instructions later tonight.

There is a Machine shop around here and they said they would do it for about 300. They are not a garage but an engine machine shop. REally nice tools. (nothing impresses like a 50000+ cnc mill)
I just have to bring them the head/gasket/ and TB to match. The 300 Is just for the boring out and work on the IM.
Porting was like about 500 / 600 but I need to bring them the head.

All said and done that should help response like a mother Fvcker.
