Also the interior was missing the dash and the surrounding plastic around the steering wheel, so chances are i will be able to get in there and get the ECU out very easily. So my question now is confirmed to be a 1.8 car or not?

The 1.8 ecu that you want is 39110-23940. 90% of the 1.8 tibs came with the 23910, 23920, and 23930. The 23940 that you want, comes from a 98 elantra. It would be worth it to get your head up there and at least take a look at number on it though.

When you get the header off you should take some pics of it and post them up here. And don't forget to take the flex pipe also.

thats definitly NOT the OEM 1.8 exhaust manifold. i installed one of them on my RD2. it looks nothing like that, and seperates half way down for the down pipe. that is for sure an aftermarket piece.

Im going to take a better look at it this friday and i will get a few needed parts off of it and maybe post a vin # up to find out if its a 1.8 or not. But for sure i have to go back and get a mirror from another tib. Also if it has a aftermarket header surely it has and aftermarket or custom exhaust so i will check that out as well.

It says on the door what date it was manufactured. I forget what the cutoff date was for the 1.8s, but if it says 1997 its probably a 1.8.
