exhaust help
what actually makes up an exhaust system? I want to get a new exhaust that will add some more power, but i don't know exactly what to get. all i know is that i want dual exhaust so if anyone can tell me what all i need to get and how much you think this will probably cost that would be great. thanks a lot everyone
1st, if you want power, you don't want dual exhaust. Dual exhaust will kill your back pressure and you will loose power.
Here is what the exhaust consists of from the motor back:
1. Intake manifold
2. 1st Cat
3. Downpipe
4. 2nd Cat
5 Pipe from Cat to muffler
6. Muffler.
Here is what I have from the motor back and I am very impressed with the gains. I spent about $500 total.
1. KRD 4-1 Header
2. Downpipe
3. "Racing Cat" (it is a straight pipe)
4. 2.25" Mandrel bent pipe from the "racing cat" back.
5. Apexi N! Muffler.
Awesome power, but loud!!

TIBRACER used improper terminalogy in his breakdown, 1.) should read EXHAUST MANIFOLD (thats the term for stock "headers")
also not ALL US tibs came w/ 2 catalytic convertors.
the ideal setup would be :
Header
Catalytic Convertor
Mid pipe - this goes between the Cat and the rear portion of your exhaust and may include a resonator
Rear section - this is where the mid pipe ends (near the rear axels) and also is where your muffler would be.
Depending on the milage of your tib you may be allowed to remove the second cat, but if you do not get a REAL high performance cat, you will have a CEL (Check Engine Light). They are bad for both performance and emmisions.
If you cant do it all at once, the best bet would be to go for a "Cat-Back exhuast" which is simply the mid-pipe and rear sections. then at a later point get headers and replace your Cat(s).

dweet, that might be all that you need, but legal requirements for both emissions and noise levels vary from state to state.
oh and BTW DWEET, you dont have an exhuast manifold or headers on your tib??...............
