Coolant Overflow Tank Temps

Just as the topic states, I need to know how hot you think the overflow tank gets. You will all see why, hopefully by tonight. Need opinions ASAP. Thanks!!!

off hand I would say it can get up to around 250 degrees if you overheat your car.

no hotter then boiling water. that is overtemp.

i'd say 160-190 operating temp.

radiator fluid is only half water. the boiling point is much higher.

the answer to your question depends though. are you overheating? if so, that tank is getting a bunch of freshly heated coolant, and will be hot as hell. if you are just driving and everything is normal, i dont even think anything enters or leaves the overflow tank.

Thanks for the responses. No problems overheating, just wanted to know the temp range. I am chroming my coolant overflow tank and powersteering tank and needed to know the operating temp ranges. I decided to base coat it with a ceramic engine paint that good to 500 degree's so all should be well!. I'll post pics when I get more done. Thanks!
