Cigarette Lighter not working.
I first noticed that it was not working when I tried to charge my cell phone. I didn't really care at the time, but I am now bought a radar detector on ebay last night and then realized that it gets power from the cigarette lighter. My father and I have had the ash tray console out of the car to install a switch for my amp, and had to disconnect the wires that go to it. I am guessing we did not reconnect it properly. Can anyone tell me how it should go together or what to look for?
seriously, you should be able to check if the wires are connected in a total of 30 seconds.
pop off shifter surround.
pull towards you on radio surround.
check and see if wires on the back of the ashtray are connected to anything.

it seems you already knew why it wasn't working. wasted words, my friend...
and you don't HAVE to set it up through the cigarette lighter.. you COULD wire it to a switch wink1.gif

just to add... just because you have power to the lighter... does not mean it works. The one on my Tib, when it was new, did not work. I replaced it so I could use the charger/stand for my cell phone.
Spartacus,
How would you recommend hooking it to a switch? Just cutting off the cigarette adapter and running the power to the battery and then the ground to a ground? I am going to mess with it in a little bit to see what the deal with it is.

Yup.
First, check the corresponding fuze.
If it's okay, then take the 2 parts off, the surround and the radio surround, and see if it's plugged ALL THE WAY IN.
If so, look inside the socket to see if it's damaged.
If it's not, test the socket to see if it's getting power.
If it isn't, unplug the lighter at the connector and test it to see if you are getting power.
Simple. If there's no power to the connector, you have a short somewhere or a bad fuse/fuse connections. If it's getting power up to there, you either aren't connecting the connector all the way or you have a burnt out lighter socket. It happens.
