I thought I had it secured down as much as possible. I will just continue to check it over time to be sure it's not coming loose or anything.
Ham I had the intake in for over a year.
I've never had a major accident, just a few people bumping into my rear and some kid running into my car on his bike, but that was on the passenger side.

I just installed a brand new AEM cai, and I noticed that fitment was TIGHT! Between the frame rail, the battery tray and the transmission, it barely fit

I have an auto, and I couldn't seem to get it clear of either the frame or the transmission. So looking at your damage, is EXACTLY where mine is going to rub also. So for a stopgap measure I just wrapped duct tape around the places I thought would get wear, while I thought of a better idea.

I'm also worried about the transmission shifting around together with the engine in the bay and punching the exact same dents in my intake also.

Anyone also notice that the mounting point (with the rubber spacer) does not seem to be optimal? I couldnt get the CAI mounted where it was not touching anything. So I did the next best thing, I mounted it securely and flush against the rail, so hopefully it will vibrate WITH it not rub against it and get cut. Spent close to 2-3 damn hours just on the positioning... just gave up eventually.

I installed my AEM a while back and fitment was tight but it still seemed to bump against the fram in one spot. We took a piece of hose and glued it to the frame so if it bumped it wouldnt hurt the pipe. So far so good but i havent looked at it in a month or so.

Well it's good to know that I'm not the only person experiencing/noticing this. lol
The hose idea isn't bad dragun. I wonder if eventually it would rub through the hose.....I'm going to check Home Depot for some sort of rubber sleeve or something to help protect it before reinstalling it. I just don't want to buy another dang intake but eventually will have to for shows I suppose. I'll just worry about that later though. I'll post up if I find anything useful.
TDA maybe you should do the hose thing that dragun did. Especially if you mounted the CAI flush with the frame, moreso I would think because it's touching. I can see in the future that it may end up doing the same thing.

I'm so glad I saw this thread. I installed my AEM CIA the other day and I spent damn near 45 minutes repositioning it and moving it around until I got it as good as I could.

I took the battery tray out when I did, and when I put the tray back in, it didn't fit. So I used a jigsaw to cut my battery tray.

I noticed today that I heard something rattling very faintly. I think it's my CIA.

So does anyone have an AEM CIA with an auto tranny that DOESN'T have damage on it???

I'm glad I found this early, as I only installed it 2 days ago. I don't want to have to spend another $200 on a new one just because I didn't position it correctly.

I'll take some pics if I can as well.

mine was hitting my auto tranny until i put an end to the CAI's misery by cutting it in half, making it about 1 inch shorter, and installing the bypass valve. fits perfectly now lol.gif

I had problems with the OLD SCHOOL MHP TUNING intake I had way back in 99-00. The "fix" I had was to cut a piece of tubing the long way, and silocone it to the offending frame part. It made a nice rubber cushion for the CAI, and no more "clank" over bumps.
