Default CAI Rubbing

I took my CAI out and noticed that there are a few issues as far as rubbing goes. Near the filter it's rubbing against the frame and also bumping on something else. The frame rub is nearly through the pipe, thank goodness I noticed it when I did otherwise I'd have to buy a whole new pipe.

Anyways, I took a few pictures and they are below. I want to know if anyone else is or has had the same problem and what did they do to fix it.

TIA

do you have anything supporting the cai? good ones usually have a piece of metal (with a hole for a bolt)welded on it so you can mount it. mine attaches to the supports of the stock airbox, i dunno if thats the case with other ones. i see yours is there but did you mount it? looks like it was just bouncing all over the place which is no good.

^^ Agreed. It can't be supported properly if its doing that... and if it is, since its not a namebrand it may not have been constructed properly in the first place.

Yea thats all true, but I almost have that problem with my AEM. There is like only one exact place the pipe can sit without rubbing the filter or the pipe. And its a PITA to try and hold the pipe perfectly in place and tighten the nut that holds it up.

So maybe you need to just be more careful when you reinstall.

well maybe we could get some pictures of your bay and circle the parts of your engine most likely responsible for hitting it?

It is an AEM intake, I just took the sticker off. I did mount it and yes I do have an auto. So is there something I can put on the pipe to help lessen the damage upon reinstall or should I just buy a new pipe when and if this thing goes all the way through?

well i imagine you could take something like a rubber coupler and put it around the spot where its being damaged, or you could just prevent it from bouncing up and down(better idea) by mounting it securely

I would say anything made of rubber can soften the hit from the corner of the AutoTranny to the pipe.

With the damage he is getting I really doubt a rubber coupler is going to last that long... how long have you had it on? That is some pretty serious damage.

Did you car get extensively repaired from a major accident on that side?
