Default Bypass Valve?

I was surfing the AEM site for stuff for our cars and stumbled upon this:

http://www.coximport.com/store/20-403s

What/where exactly is this used for? What performance gains would one get by installing one?

No performance gains at all with that. That is a water bypass valve to be installed on your cold air intake. If your CAI filter gets submerged in water the baffles in the bypass valve open up allowing your engine to breath air rather than water. Everyone knows engines don't like to breath water.... laugh.gif:

if you DO have a CAI though, it actually decreases the performance i believe.

That's a very small loss though. If you live in an area that floods the piece of mind is worth it.

For a minute, I thought this was someone trying to put a blowoff valve on a N/A car... LOL. Make sure you name the title right next time, was about to chew you out.

If you live somewhere where there is a chance to submerge your car in two feet of water, I would buy it.

yea you might want to change the title lol. basically yea, if you have a chance of goin through a deep puddle and by depe puddle i mean lake, then yea get it. i believe its only about a 3HP loss ? dont quote me on that, but it would def be worth if to save your engine if need be
