Car won't start
Okay, so I come home for the weekend, take my tib out for some driving. Car starts fine initially, I go to the bank, car starts fine again. I go pickup some hot wings, when I try to start my car to head out, the engine gets a few turns then stops. Now all I get is a whirring sound. I'm thinking it's the starter, can it be anything else, like my SMT-6? Any constructive help is appreciated wink1.gif
If it just clicks, its probably the starter, unless your battery/alt died on you, but since it worked like 5 mins before I doubt it. Make sure all the wiring is still good, if not it got fried.
just because it worked 5 mins before doesn't mean it will work now. i would check the battery first. just because its cheapest, but it could be your starter. go to an autozone or advance auto and get some free test done.
Well it's not the battery, I tried to jump it and it's doing the same thing (whirring sound like something is spinning, but engine doesn't turn over). And I can't exactly drive my car to autozone wink1.gif.
What do you mean by "push it" ?? Push starting ? I haven't tried push starting, but I've pushed it and it rolls! laugh.gif:
Edit: I know how to push start a car, there's just no one around to help me do it, and there are no inclines to roll down.

yes you CAN drive your car to auto zone!
Is your car a manual? It HAS to be a manual for this to work:
Push your car onto onto the road (preferably downhill). Put car in 2nd gear. It HAS to be second gear. Put key into ON position (the position just before the one where you hold it to start). Let your car start rolling downhill (or have someone push it). Once you pick up some speed turn the key to start car (car MUST be in second gear) and viola! Trust me it works....IF your car is manual. There's a way to do it if your car's auto but I forgot. Good luck.
Oh yeah, and if this does not work then it is your starter that is the problem (or the wiring to/from the starter).

yeah sorry, haven't done this in a while (since back in my "bad-kid" days):
So do this (revised instructions):
put key to ON
put car in 2nd
hold clutch down
let car roll (or push)
once she's rollin:
release clutch and at same time turn key to start car
^^that should do it.

Oh, in case you guys didn't know...
PEP BOYS now will TOW YOUR CAR FOR FREE to their shop, as long as you have the work done there.

Since you tried to jump, and it still does the same thing, its probably the starter solenoid.. I dont think you can replace the solenoid alone on tib starters, probably need a new one..
If it was CLICKING when you tried to start, thats a dead battery (caused by??).. If its just spinning, the solenoid probably isnt sending the gear to the flywheel to spin it..
