Here in South america there still a version of the new Elantra XD with the 1.6 Beta, what I'm not sure is if it's really a BetaII 1.6 engine, or if it's the old Beta 1.6.</div>Check the block. Does it have "J2" cast into it, or "XD".

Is the difference in the amount of cylinders? Or is it the what the engine is made of, how it's made or what? I'm just curious to know in case I decide to do something with it in the future. And yeah I know I'm limited as to what I can do otherwise the bottom of the engine decides it wants to fall apart (booo). Just being curious and if anyone can answer my questions it's you guys.

all beta engines share the same block. J2's are beta1's, XD's are beta2s. Those are the only two blocks for betas.

If you do a search, you find Bore and stroke combo's for all engines, including the 1.6L.

Without having the exact figures in front of me.

1.6L has smaller bore than 1.8L, but same stroke as 1.8L

1.8L has same bore as 2.0L, but same stroke as 1.6L

2.0L has same bore as 1.8L but longer stroke than 1.8L or 1.6L
