Hope you guys realized, this is going to go on forever until all points have been considered and all the information analyzed. Then it might turn into a you-know-what.

A good friend of mine has a 1990 Colt/Mirage hatchback... he wants to transplant THE WHOLE DRIVETRAIN from an AWD Turbo Talon/Eclipse onto his car.
The engine can be done, but I think he's nuts to want to do the whole thing.
Although, because he uses the car for rallying, it'd make the car a lot more competitive.
I just don't want to think about the logistics involved with doing a conversion like that....

Yeah, it sucks having to do donuts in the snow backwards in a FWD ... RWD is way more fun for donuts. Of course, that 2 engine tibby had the best AWD burn-out I've seen in a while. =)

I second the "if rwd sucks, then why does every major racing league use rwd chassis?" argument. And for those of you that swear by fwd, I suggest driving a Miata for an afternoon. Or go try an old Z on for size...I think your opinions will change.

I still hold that a RWD tiburon would be pretty much the perfect car...but I take what I can get/afford.

Ok, so if we did the conversion without tunnelling a new channel for the shaft to fit in, how far would it hang under the chasis? Not a good example, but the Honda CRV has their drive shaft hanging out and exhaust too...but it is high up...how difficult would it be to bang a channel in the undercarriage anyways? Just heat up the metal and hammer away...unless there are cross bars and braces from the chasis in your way, but I haven't looked at it in detail.

There is a channel under the car. The echaust and a drive shaft fit fine, thats how they do AWD in the rally car.

rememeber the chassis design for the tiburon was original 4wd drive, but for costs it was never put into production.

All ya need really is a new gas tank.

Well then there ya go...this isn't a project that is out of most of our budgets...I mean, it wouldn't be that hard for some of our pros out here to look into what it would take and costs.

I was discussing this with random, and the price of this would be mainly in the rear suspenion.
