engine swap

lancer evo 3 engine, 280bhp, easily upgraded to a 400-500hp

the reason ya want the lancer engine and not the eclipse.
lancers engine is on the passenger side, the eclipse engine is on the driver side.
tiburon engine is on the passenger side.

For the cost of putting a more powerful engine into the tibby's engine compartment, you can get the same, if not better HP out of the existing beta engine.

say i wanted to get headers and a new throttle body for my tib, id have to do my manifold and many other things to get a significant change in power wouldnt i? thatd be almost 1200 i think. how much would it cost to swap in a lancer engine or even one from an rx7?
thanks

Er, to get the levels of power discussed here we're not talking about headers and throttle body--we're talking custom turbo buildup. Budget, everything including building and tuning time, starts in the range of $3000-4000. The major parts can be had for under $2000, but there are all sorts of details (that have been repeatedly rehashed here) that add up quickly.
For the cost of the engine plus transmission (because your beta tranny won't bolt up), the cost of fitting axles, fabricating engine mounts, bastardizing a wiring harness and engine management system, all the changes in hoses, belt runs, and a thousand other details...you'd be lucky to get in under $4000.

at $2800 for a Lancer Evo IV motor, $800 for the intercooler and plumbing, $500 for a Lancer IV ECU. and an extra $200 for a wiring harness, it would be cheaper to buy the front clip (a-pillar forward) for about $3500.
Motor mounts will still have to be fabricated/customized, not to mention the labor cost for removing/swaping the 2 motors, and splicing the electrical system. I would estimate $5000 minimum.
Some of that cost ($200-400) can be recouped by selling your old motor.
For that $5000, You could build your own turbo system that would come close to, or equal the 280 Crank HP of the lancer motor. You would have cheaper part availablity (Hyundai beta parts vs Imported Evo Iv parts).

Man, I wish I was your mechanic wink
More. The reason people talk about the Lancer EVO engine is because it sits similar to the Beta. The RX7 has a radically different layout, it would probably require a complete custom renovation of the engine compartment and drive train.
