I have the 1.8 '97 Elantra. I would like more displacement. So, my question is how much of a pain will it be to put in the 2.0 out of a tiburon or elantra? Would i need the 2.0 trannies, ecu, mounts, etc. I see engine on ebay going pretty cheap occasionally, and was wondering if it would work without too many problems. Thanks.

 

The swap should be straight forward. If you go with the "XD" Beta2 motor, the swap is a tad more complicated, as the flywheel mounts slightly differently, but other than that, no problems.

The 2.0/1.8 share the same block, mounts trannies, etc..etc..etc..

If your going to swap the engine... you might as well switch the pistons and turn it into a project motor

Get direct port, turbo, or supercharger later

The engine would be good up to 300whp

You could also do some headwork, and other fun stuff wink

 

I wouldn't need to switch the ECM!! that is a main concern. There is an engine on ebay right now out an elantra i think it's a 99-00, no problems?? postive???

 

Do the swap and after some reinforcement such as pistons,rods etc in order to be able to boost your elantra and show taillights..But if you are planning to turbo your elantra its better to do it with the 1.8ltr moter..Ive heard that 1.8s are better for turbo applications....

 

How is the 1.8 better for turbo applications? plus i don't think a 1.8 or 2.0 with 110k miles on it is good for turbo or nitrous with out thousands upon thousand of dollars worth of work. i don't have that thick of a wallet, if you know what i mean.

 

Not really, I would rebuild the engine with new internals and it should be good to go. Remember its an iron block. And everything else just need to be swapped.

I seen hyundais with 230k miles on them. sitll run strong.

 

I beleive the ECUs are different and so are the fuel injectors.
