Default elantra engine... should I get it?

My dealer has an Elantra motor and head with 7,000 miles on it that I can pick up for $300. Its a jiffy lube special, i.e. jiffy lube forgot to put oil in it and tried to start it up. The motor needs new rod bearings (possibly main bearings too) and the oil pump needs to be cleaned out. Is it worth $300, or should I forget about it? I'm pretty sure I can do the work myself...

What year car is is from? Do you get just the head and block or do you get anything else. I can find used Elantra engines that were in working order (before the car got wrecked) with everything from the throttle body to the exhaust manifold in most junkyards for around $500usd all day. If you getting it from a dealer most likely you are getting the *short block*. If that is the case 300 is not that great a deal. It looks like your driving an accent and therefore plan on doing the 2.0 swap. You'll need all that other stuff plus an ecu. It think that it would be cheaper to go some where else.

Nope, just the block, crank, pistons, rods, and complete head for $300.

No manifolds, pulleys, etc.

Uhhh dude sorry to bust your bubble but if that engine's been run without oil to the point of destruction don't buy it man!

Without oil the journals and bearings and seals would have gone to hell, the piston bores would propably be shot not to even mention what happens to the hydraulic lifter assys when this goes down.

Give it some serious thought man, this motor isn't propably gonna be usable unless you get majore repairs done to it, which would also bring in the matter of cost and labour. Think it over man.

As long as the block doesn't have a hole in it and you plan on building it go for it. The G4GC has solid lifters so it should be OK, the cylinder walls can probably be honed and if you were putting rods & pistons in it you would be doing that anyway. Bearings can be replaced also. If I had access to it I would buy it........Thats why RPW made their 2.2L stroker kit Try to talk them down a little more.

For $300 in that shape, it's not worth it.

You should be able to get a used engine in running condition for $400 to $500.
