Default 2.7 gk motor in an rd?

I have literally been searching for over an hour on the forum and havent come across anything saying anybody has done it or tried the 2.7 swap in an rd...I notice Hyundai people do the beta 2 swap in there rd tibs and accents, but has anybody tried the 2.7 in the rd or rd2? The rd2 engine bay seems pretty big and I'm wondering if it would fit or even be worth trying?

Thanks,

Chet

If my theory is correct and beta 1 and 2 are swappable without mount modification AND if the 2.7 shares the same mounting locations as a beta 2 then it should be fairly straight forward. Wiring will be the biggest challenge assuming it can physically fit.

I think the reason why no-one tried it is due to the time and money required to do the swap. And, for the power gains, it's easier and cheaper to turbo a beta. Which can produce better numbers then the v6...

Unless you are intending to turbo/supercharge the v6...

But space becomes a huge issue.

For example, there is ample room for a supercharger on a beta in the GK's but the firewall is in the way for RD's.

There was a company that sold s/c's for RD's but have since gone bankrupt and left a bad taste in the mouths of many of the old schoolers from the early RDTiburon.com days.

Are there any business out there that still make super chargers for the beta 1?

No, but superchargers for other small engines can be made to fit. Unless you REALLY hate turbos, turbocharging is the easiest way to forced-induction on an RD.

Supercharging isnt really even worth it on a beta. You'll get 40-50 horses at most. You're better off getting a nitrous kit for WAY cheaper, and calling it a day. As for putting in a 2.7, soooooo not worth it. You would do all that work, fabrication, time, and money spent for what....30 horses at most? 170 hp V6 versus 140 hp I4.

You could get a header, good exhaust, intake, cam, bored out TB and IM, under drive pulley, and be close to that 170 hp in the beta. And still weigh less than a GK and have spent way less than dropping the 2.7 in. Another thing you would have to worry about with the 2.7 is handling. The car would be pretty front heavy and your handling would go to hell.

When I first got my RD I was considering a delta swap, until I did the background on the delta and the beta. A delta swap will cost more than a turbo kit for a beta and prove weak. I think you'll find that not only are the power gains negligible but the delta is quick to combust under boost. Unless you're looking to blow 8-12k on a full race long block. It's not the smartest way to spend money on a Tib.
