Hello and general questions
Hello all,
Former '01 Tiburon owner who recently had an incident with it that caused me to be in the market for a new car lol been lovin' the GC since they came out and might finally be joining in the fun...the 3.8 R-spec has been tickling my fancy, but i'm wondering if I should look at a different model, like the track or grand touring, or even looking at the 2.0T instead. I definitely want it to be stick, but some of the trans stories I'm hearing don't sound fun. Just looking for some general input from current owners on what to look out for or any other major issues that have cropped up. Probably looking for a newer model but wouldn't be against a first gen if the price was right. Thanks in advance for any help

I can't help you with the Gen, but maybe we can help more with the RD. What are its problems? I don't ever see RD's on the road anymore. Hate to lose another.

Here's some info that may be some help...
2.0
3.8
As far as choosing between a Base, Grand Touring, or Track...it all depends on your budget and what you plan to do with the car, mod wise. If you think you're going to quite a bit of aftermarket stuff, like brakes, suspension, interior, etc...then it's not worth spending the money for a Track or GT since you'll be removing most of the parts to add aftermarket. But if you dont plan to mod it too much and just want well rounded out of the box performance from the factory, then go with a Track or GT.
2.0
- Can easily be modded to handle 400 horsepower with just a new turbo, injectors, and a tune
- Easier to work on, engine wise
- The clutch & flywheel suck, so if you plan on getting a tune or adding any big power adders, plan to get a new clutch & flywheel ASAP
- A new tune, even a canned one (non custom) makes the car feel like a completely different car with way more power
- Less expensive to buy
3.8
- Quick without having to do too much
- Simple bolt ons work well for this model
- If you plan to boost, expect to spend A LOT but you can expect a ridiculous amount of power by simply adding a small turbo set up
- More expensive than a 2.0

^ same.
The price difference of a 3.8 vs a 2.0 can make the 2.0 just as fast. The 2013 2.0T is breaking 300whp and upwards of 340-ish wtq with less than $2,500. The 3.8 is hitting 300whp, too, but closer to 280ish torque and there's nothing you can do after that sans s/c or turbo.
RSpec - has m/t, brembo brakes, LSD, BT, but no sunroof, prox key, nav, or cruise control.
Premium - has a/t, sunroof, prox key, nav, BT, cruise, but no brembo, LSD, or m/t
(Canadian models are different)
edit: Oh, and the 2013 2.0T clutch is holding to 350-380wtq so far. MAJOR improvement over prior years. Prior models need a new clutch just for a basic tune that doesn't even get you 300whp/wtq.

No hate...just cant decide if I like it or not. There's something about it that I can't stop looking at. lol 80s styling is either a love or hate. No real in between feelings.
