Default Strange Noises

I have recently noticed a few strange noises and I am wondering if anyone can shed some light onto what they may be, or if anyone else has experienced this. My ride is a 2k Elantra.

1.) When it is cool outside, I hear something coming from the front of my car that sounds almost like liquid rushing through a small pipe, but maybe not. Just sounds that way. It comes in short (few second) bursts and then stops. I noticed that it happens often if I rev my engine very slightly. I can hear it as the tach is coming down past 1.5k.

2.) Also, I can hear a loud buzzing (vibrating noise) from behind the instrument cluster when revving high, say, once I hit 4 or 5k RPMs. It happens mostly when cool outside as well (California cool, that is, like 60deg) but recently it has been continuing to do this after the engine is well warmed... I did just install my sweet looking white gauge faces, (involved taking the inst cluster out) but the noise happened prior to that.

Any ideas?

The fluid "whooshing" sound is probably your IAC -- idle adjustment control? It sits on the manifold and allows bypass air to pass the throttle body and feed the engine when at idle. When it kicks in (at choked throttle, i.e. the plate is closed), the initial sound is a whoosh.

The buzzing you describe, at least in my tib, is the odometer reset rattling against the plexiglass. I used a little grommet in there and it went away.

Hopefully these are what I have experienced and not something more sinister.

Thanks for the info, I am hoping that the wooshing noise is something normal as Curtas said. Unfortunatley, the loud buzzing is not the odometer reset. I only know this because I did not put the plexiglass back on yet after installing the gauge faces...

I have heard of people who have had problems like this with the speedometer cable or something... not sure if it is the same thing.

The buzzing sound is something rubbing behind the gauge cluster. The only way to find it is to remove the gauge cluster, and check all wire looms for rubbing, and/or tape them all together so they won't rub on anything. It got worse after your gauge install is pointing toward something back there.

The WOOSHING is more than likely the IAB (Idle Air Bypass) like Curtas said.
