Hyundai Elantra Forum The Hyundai Elantra Forum. Later models (96-up) of this 4-door share their Beta engines and chassis with the Hyundai Tiburon. Earlier Mistubishi-based Hyundai Elantras (92-95) are perfect candidates for the popular 4g63t motor swap, which turns the Hyundai Elantra into a real sleeper. THE ENGINE IS THE SAME!!!! I'm sorry but I along with other people are getting tired of the cam being referred to as a "GT" cam. It is the same cam in our GLS. I have been fighting this for awhile now and no one will listen.

BTW I got the "REAL" Apex springs now for my Elantra. The ones specifically for our 2001 Elantras. I'll post pics this weekend hopefully.

There is a RUMOR that the first batch of 2001 Elantras that were made still had the "old" Beta in it with the MAF system. I do not know why Hyundai would do that though. I have NEVER seen a 2001 Elantra with a MAF system installed so I don't believe the RUMOR. BTW on the springs, I know. Since you said the pre-2001 springs fit I went out and bought some H & R's. Spent 2 hours installing them, moved to the back to do the back and guess what, they did not fit. So I had to spend another 2 hours taking the backs back off. The rears were about 3/4 of an inch too thin to sit in the perches.
