Hyundai Elantra Forum The Hyundai Elantra Forum. Later models (96-up) of this 4-door share their Beta engines and chassis with the Hyundai Tiburon. Earlier Mistubishi-based Hyundai Elantras (92-95) are perfect candidates for the popular 4g63t motor swap, which turns the Hyundai Elantra into a real sleeper. These characteristics make the Hyundai Elantra a great car for those who want sports car performance with family car flexibility.

Default Good news for Beta2 Owners (2001 Elantra and 2003 I4 Tibby)

You can get a FACTORY underdrive pully.

Here's the specs.
Beta2 Crank pully.
144mm Outter Diameter
140mm Belt Surface Outter Diameter (inner pully)
144mm Outter Diameter
140mm Belt Surface Outter Diameter (outter pully)
4.5 lbs

Beta1 Crank Pully
134mm Outter Diamter
130mm Belt Outter Diameter (inner pully)
144mm Outer Diameter
140mm Belt Outer Diameter (outter pully)
4.0 lbs
So you save .5 lbs of rotating mass, and you also save via a SLIGHT under drive effect.

For comparison purposes.
RPW Crank Pully
116mm Outter Diamter
112mm Belt Outter Diameter (inner pully)
124mm Outer Diameter
120mm Belt Outer Diameter (outter pully)
4.1 lbs

The RPW pully is a TAD heavier (0.1 lbs) than the stock beta1 crank pully, but it DOES have the rubber Harmonic Dampner ring, and the under drive effect is significant.

The weights are correct. I verified it with my written notes.

Beta2 was 4.5 lbs
Beta1 was 4.0 lbs
RPW was 4.1 lbs

The Beta1 was between 3.9 and 4.0 in all the weight tests. The RPW was between 4.0 and 4.1 in all the tests. When the Beta2 was "light" (3.9), the RPW was also "light"(4.0), and when they were "heavy" they were both "heavy" by the same degree.(4.0 and 4.1). The Beta2 pully was always 4.5 or 4.6lbs I did "average" the weight results of all tests, that that is how I came out with 4.0, 4.1 and 4.5 respectivly.

If I ever get a chance to get another beta1 pully, I will try to take them to a more accurage digial scale, so we can get more accurate results.
