Default Elantra GT Cam

Okay... so if I installed the Elantra GT cam, given it has a slightly longer duration it "should" lower compression... maybe a little?

Would it lower compression enough to not install the head spacer for my Alpine Turbo?

Thanks

I just did a Elantra GT cam swap today and didn't feel that much power gains, I guess a CAI, headers, BBTB and exhaust would help. I too a vaccum reading before the swap and it was reading at 22in hg and after the swap it was reading at 18in hg. It did sound more throater though. We did an acceleration test at 60km/h in second gear with another stock Tib and my Tib pulled just slighty harder. In my opinion you will need more mods to gain maximum performance of the camshaft.

Just for your information the elantra gt cam did idle smooth.

I'm thinking about buying installing the Elantra GT cam from SR on my 2000 Elantra... I'm assuming the swap won't be too hard and that it'll work just fine with my 2k beta engine, but are there any hp figures or dyno results with the GT cams vs. the older cams? Estimates on approx where I will be after the install?

Only "engine" mod I have currently is a MHP CAI.

Okay I was just in the shower and I was thinking my logic is flawed...

If the cam has more duration and more lift it should allow more air in and as such increase the "dynamic" compression.

So... I guess it might help off-set the impact of the head spacer when in a non-boost mode.

I'm confused...

Vs which older cam? the 1.8? the 1.8 has less lift or duration than the gt cam and is a 2 hp proven gain, the gt might get you 3-4 hp. it does work better with more N/A mods

Thanks Brendan, to clarify, I'm talking GT cams Vs. the 2.0L Beta cams that are stock on 2000 model Elantras/Tibs... will I see a gain of 3-4 if I install the GT cams on this motor?

CyberGreg- Your second post is correct. The larger lift and longer duration of the GT cam will RAISE the dynamic compression just a tad. It will not affect static compression one bit.

If you don't want to go with the alpine head spacer (and I reccomend that you don't) go with the Pisitons that KORE is selling for Ballastic's racing. They are lower compression units that will fit in the stock cylinders without a rebore.
