Amusing coincidence with recent CAFE standards announcements?
It should piss us all right off that car companies have to be forced by Congress to do what they could have done all along: better fuel economy WITH the same or better power and emissions numbers.

I'm not sure this is right though. Those were the projected numbers for the 2012 ACCENT, which looks the same as the 2011 Elantra.

o yay!!! they are finally getting real mpg numbers out of 'real' cars... that some cars got 10-20 years ago..
still find it super silly that hyundai can come out with cars like the elantra or veloster that are 100% gasoline pushing good numbers and you got the retarded smart cars getting the same or less highway mpg and being half the car.. or having hybrids that cost 50% more getting the same mileage..
why the HELL would anyone buy a smart car for 13k$ without a radio instead of a 4 door hyundai that gets the same mpg and has a radio and AC is beyond me..

the 2011 MD elantra is already known for getting 40mpg on highway, i hope its not a misquote,
it just suck's that it's no quicker than most of it's competitors with that peppy non gdi 1.8L
the electric programmed power steering with it's artificial feedback is odd, and it has it's own PSCM computer for the steering

I own a 2011 Elantra GLS, (with every option except the sunroof and flog lights, (the fog lights ordered), and had a chance to drive it's competitors before I bought it. There is NOTHING comparable in it's class when you factor in acceleration and MPG. I am getting 42.2mpg on the highway at 60mph. Goes down to 38 - 40mpg @ 70 - 80. The closest compeditor was the Chevy Cruz, but you need to carry a cell phone to call the guy you want to pass, and ask his permission, if you want/need to. I LOVE the car!!
