Default Synchos/exhaust

Hello,

2 quick questions

My pet peeve about the my LC2 right now is the synchros. Specifically when going to 2nd gear at high revs. It's always been like this but obviously worse since I installed my short throw shifter a while back. Anyone find any fix or resolution for this?

The other thing is I have a SRI from K&N on my car, I'm holding off getting headers/exhaust until my warranty ends. Or should I just a catback exhaust now. Would i still notice a power improvement? I'm thinking magnaflow or Greddy.

Thanks!

To answer #1 Get some Royal Purple Manual Transmission fluid and do the slave cylinder mod (if you haven't already)

yea 2nd and 4th are bad. It doesn't do it often and only if you're almost redlining it. YOu have to wait like a heart beat or two then shift. Kind of kills the fun. It's the synchros that can't keep up.

Thanks slyderai I shall try it the slave cylinder mod do you have a link? I'll try searching it.

Replace your tranny fluid with Redline MT-90. Not Redline 90 weight, not Royal Purple, not Amsoil, Only Redline MT-90. It's a very unique viscosity that Accent trannys absolutely love. I was on the verge of replacing my tranny when I switched to it and that was 50k miles ago now. I've tried a few other fluids and I always end up draining it within a few hundred miles because my problems came back.

Yes that's what it was! I wasn't sure why I thought royal purple (maybe cause that's what I use for oil??? But yeah Redline MT-90 is the ticket! All manual Hyundai's love that SH*T!

With the Hyundai MT and short shifter, you still need to shift at a reasonable speed, or your going to blow your syncros completely. Just because the shift is capable of happening that much faster, doesn't mean your tranny can keep up with the "unnatural" speed of it. You still have to treat it like the car it's always been.

As for exhaust, go for it. Obviously anything new you put under there won't be covered by Hyundai, but as long as the exhaust itself doesn't cause any problem you may have down the road, it won't void any other part of your warranty.

Hey thanks for the great replies. I shall change the tranny fluid as soon as it gets a bit warmer up here.
