I was hearing a slight grinding sound coming from the rear brakes when the brakes are applied in my car. So today I re-did the fronts and took the back drums off and there is at least 80% left on the shoes . No sign of anything out of order there at all. I'm thinking that the shoes are out of adjustment to the point that they arent contacting the drums enough and making that slight dragging sound.



Are the rear drum brakes auto adjusting or do they need to be manually adjusted ?

My LC2 needed the rear's adjusted too (SO MUCH BETTER NOW) but after watching the video I couldn't find the little adjuster hole in the back of the brake. I had to take cover off completely and do it that way, which made getting them back quite difficult since it was a much tighter fit. Do you know if I just missed it or if that hole isn't there on LC Accents?

 

The hole may be on the front of the drum (covered by a rubber grommet). It's been so long since I worked on an Accent.

 

No, there's nothing but the hole where the screw goes to attach it to the hub, but now I'm thinking that maybe I should just drill in a service hole and save myself the trouble in the future.

 

My 2008 doesn't have a hole either. Using the ebrake or apply int brakes hard in reverse is suppose to adjust them but doesn't do a good job. My car has over 100k on it and the rears are like new. The fronts are only about 1/3 worn.
