Hyundai Accent Forum The Hyundai Accent Forum. Hyundai's little champ. While the Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Excel may be small, they respond very well to aftermarket modifications and is among the favorites for Hyundai tuners.

I disagree with PAS, If low end torque is what your after a intake and header, full exhaust could actually hurt low end torque but increase top end *near redline*

If you really want more low end, a very small turbo t-15- to t-20 size would be what you want and a low intercooled 5 psi.

Tuning is the key. Header tubes can be tuned for greatest efficiency at a single engine speed and greater efficiency at a certain engine speed range. Headers can be tuned for increased torque down low, increased power at the top end . . . but you don't get to choose unless you design your own headers.

If you DO get an exhaust, chances are your butt-dyno will tell you something good, and you will be happy even if you did lose a couple of % at very low engine speeds.

doing some weight reduction could help with the feel of the car-... and it's free!

did anybody mention the coolant bypass?

I/H/E with 4-2-1 headers netted me 100whp and 109lb/ft of torque at 2200rpm's. My car was rated at 104hp and 106lb/ft at the crank stock. I would call that a nice bump in low end torque. That's something like 128lb/ft at the crank.

<-- wonders if you saw a similar bump in fuel economy

Yep, a nice bump in fuel economy, about the same percentage probably.

What parts did you use for the intake and headers? Was the exhaust custom? 20 HP increase + better fuel economy sounds very enticing.

Header: Evofusion 4-2-1

Exhaust: custom 2.25" crush bent

Cam gear. On our cars the external gear acts as if we are a sohc . Which basically will move your powerband into a lower rpm . With a good short ram intake it could get a little better. Honestly ......supercharger is the way to true low end torque from the get go.
