Default Ign Timing - Engine Stinks- Timing marks -Light backfiring

Hey fella. I been trying to time my Ign timing using ear.

I got the timing light down the back of the engine on the crank Pully.

I have the Crank settings runing at 114 degrees on Crank (60-2) wheel

To get the little tab lined up with TDU on the crank my Ign is runing on -10 Retard.

The car wont rev and dont smell too happy.

When i use my ear and ignore the timing light i get 40 Degree advanced and revs freely.

Anyone got any ideas if im reading the timing marks wrong ?

If i run anything around 15-30 ign timing i get light backfire/Burble.

i wanna Setup a fixxed base timing then change it to use the Custom Ign table. (so i know the base timing is correct.

Also the smell my be due to unburned fuel over the catalytic converter. Should i ignore it and carry on till the mark lines up ?

The base Timing by hyundai for the 2.0 Beta is 5-15° @ 700-900 RPM.

but due to the bad smell and the fact the engine will not rev.. I don't understand if im looking at the right timing marks.

Anyone got a picture ?

Nope thats Engine Timing not IGN Timing.

If u look down Rear of the engine u sill see alittle dent in the pully (white notch under a timing light) and the some lines on the engine.

As u advance and retard the ign timing the mark moves close or farer away from the lines.. Problem is when i line it right up. The engine wont rev past 1400RPM. So i think im looking at the right thing...

Iv worked it out... Because Beta use Tooth wheel Angle on the crank sensor. Igg Timing is not impotent as far as im aware.

That's what was confusing me then. The only timing you really have to set carefully with this type of ignition is the valves. So is the problem fixed then, or are you deeper in the weeds now than before? Do you have any check engine light codes?

Your not revving due to -10 timing. I'm assuming your running a megasquirt . Try 10-12 makes life easier. Good luck. And fyi if you are using tuner studio it has a tool to check ignition timing by only outputing exactly whatever you want ie 10 advance then check with the timing marks at the crank using the mark on your plastic cover on the left of the front of the motor just under the AC mount. It should match with your timing light if your setting are correct. And it does matter in the long run. My 2cents

Thats whats confusing me.

I can only get the marks to line up with -12 Fixxed timing.

When i use 10-12 Degree the marks are about 2 Inch's away from the line.

If i set the Fixed timing to -12 then Change mega squirt to run on the table it wont rev past 3000Rpm.

So should i ingore the timing light and just run 12 Degree

I am runing a registered version of tuner studio. i cant use the timing wizard because i use a crank angle of 114 degrees.
