You use a glass pack in the same manner a resonator is used. Which is acually what a glass pack is. You will loose a slight amout of top end HP maybe 1HP and gain a little more back pressure. Very slight though as long as you are getting a perforated core glass pack. The El Camino probasbly has the other sytle glass pack. And is not running a muffler on it. If you put a cheap straight threw muffler say like the OBX B-3 use it with the silencer and the glassp pack that thing will be real quiet. I have a gutted second cat wiuth the stock resonator on it and the front cat still intact and use the silencer on it. even without the silencer the OBX B-3 Muffler is quieter than my intake cone. SO I could imagine if you have both cats the glass pack and the silence in. I have the silencer in because it quieted the muffler down a little more when the throttle is closed. Basiaclly removing the poping noise out of it. the silencer is tunable too for sound. The muffler is real deap too. I've had it on the car for almost two months now and it is still deep and quiet. Unlike alot of other mufflers that actually get louder and raspier like the Flowmaster straight threws. The OBX B-3 also looks just like the 5zigen Fireball Muffler. Hope this helps.
Ruben-z,
It's a good thing to do the research and plan, I always try to do that. One of the things I liked about the Sportone that was different than some other products was the fact that it GAINED hp and torque through-out the rpm range...no losses anywhere...according to two dynos I am aware of. It also outflows Flowmaster, Borla,Dynomax, Thrush, Ansa, Monza,Edlebrook, Momo, Greddy...
the list goes on according to Powertone's research claims. I could definately have found a less expensive product, but this one has the power gains, mirror-polished looks, and the quiet but sporty sound I wanted. To me, it's worth paying a little over $200 for the muffler and tip. The 30 day return policy and lifetime warranty weren't offered for some of the other products I looked at either. It's great to have a lot of options when you thinking about aftermarket, but too many choices can be confusing, so I just tried to narrow down the field by staying focused on what I really wanted. I left price out of it till I had narrowed the choices. Good luck.
