accents are cars of good value and improved quality. i don't like the new ones simply because the old ones have this classic look and shape (similar to Subaru RS) they were top sellers in Europe, and number 1 selling car in Australia for a long time. As a result, Hyundai has an excellent reputation down under. the new accent is sort of basic looking. it is comparing apples to oranges, but if you were a good haggler you could buy the old accent for $6,000 brand new with A/C and warranty!!! try that today!

I still think the mileage could be improved. the Mini gets some 28c 37h. The accent could at least beat the Mini and steal some of its customers.

in my opinion(please dont shun me): suzuki should stick to making bikes

the only car i would consider on that list is the mazda 3 as well.

SX4 is solid.
I hate Mazda, I don't know why. They are good cars, but something about them just gets under my skin.

That i agree fully. The Accents gas mileage needs improvement big time...not sure why its so bad. The mini share very similar tech specs as far as bore and stroke they are only 1-3 mm off and the Accnent also uses regular fuel with DOHC and slightly lower comp ratio making less power, while the MINI uses premium fuel has SOHC and gets 115-120 hp...Hyundai needs to put more effort into the Accent...

Lets compare the 09 Accent to the 09 Mini Cooper.

Accent base MSRP $9,970
Mini base MSRP $19,200
Accent by $9230

Accent gets 27c/33h with a 5 speed
Mini Cooper hardtop gets 28c/37h
Mini by 1c/4h

Accent 16v 1.6l with CVVT 110hp/106tq
Mini 16v 1.6l with VVT 118hp/114tq
Mini by 8hp/8tq

Accent curb weight 2467
Mini curb weight 2546
Accent by 79 pounds

Accent 0-60: 8.7sec - 1/4 mile 16.6 @ 82mph
Mini 0-60: 7.7sec - 1/4 mile 16.3 @ 85mph
Mini by 1 sec 0-60 and 0.3 sec in the quarter mile

Now, for some personal information, I have raced the pre-2006 supercharged Cooper S cars in my LC2 Accent, and they're a hair faster than the Accent. Like 1 car length at 100mph faster is all. The new turbo cars are quite a bit faster though. I have never raced a standard Mini, but based on the results with the S models I'm betting they're quite a bit slower than my Accent.

The Mini isn't a bad car, but at twice the price of an Accent it wouldn't make sense to me unless it was just a car I really wanted. The mileage is only minimally better, with the Accent using about 400 gallons of gas in a typical driver's 12,000 miles per year vs. 369 for the Mini, a savings of 31 gallons per year, or $86.80 at $2.80/gallon (in a whole year). I would actually expect quite a bit better from BMW than 8hp and 8lb/ft of an improvement over the Accent on a car priced at double the Accent's cost. 93% of the performance for 1/2 the price.

Sure, it's an apples to oranges comparison, the Mini is a nicer car than the Accent in most ways. However from a value, gas mileage, and performance per dollar point of view it does not seem like a wise choice.
