Default Beta I/II engine/Trans questions.

Hi all,
New and first time poster here. I have a question for those of you that run Beta engines and transmissions and said combinations in your accents/excels (Im an Aussie). But this is open to all.

My question is, would/will a Beta II 5spd transmission (xd elantra etc) bolt onto a beta I G4GM/G4GF block? What would need changing if so (flywheel/clutch etc). And does that transmission have longer gearing than the Beta i 5 speed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Alphas and Betas can bolt to the same transmissions.

Alpha X3 trannies have a higher final drive then RDs, and a few different gears.

Final drives
X3s 3.84 (4.05 on the DOHC)
RDs 3.65
LC 3.65 (3.84 on the DOHC)
GKs 4.05

I'm sure I'm forgetting something more information, hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I was trying to see if the xd elantra 5spd would bolt onto the g4gf. So, g4gc gearbox onto g4gf. If and when i do this build, it is going to be used as a street car and want somewhat lower cruising rpm. Thanks again though.

I don't use the engine codes like that so I'm not familiar, but the XD should have the lowest ratios, but I thing it has a high 1st gear.

The gearbox i was asking about is the M5BF2. It has a 3.650 final drive and a 3.615 first gear. Was trying to find out what g/box would be good to smack behind it. I know the x3's alpha box will work but i dont want to be screaming out at 100km/h on the highway. Just want a nice daily cruiser that will be good for longish highway runs (100km distances for example).

Yes, the beta II trans will bolt up just fine to a beta I engine. Just keep the beta I flywheel and everything else is good to go. You more then likely will have to swap out the speedo sensor since they are different.

You can also lower the 5th gear, using the entire gear set of an LC 1.5L SOHC. You will need the entire tell seccion of the tranny, gears, bolts, cover (because it's wider).

I have a g4gc and stock trans '12 Touring 5 spd manual, not enough top end. 65mph 5th gear at 3k rpm :/ looking for a 6 speed application or taller gears currently. Solid for acceleration
