I was wondering if theres any advantages to relocating the battery to the hatch? Would there be a better weight distribution or do people do it mostly to get more air to their intakes?
The battery is located in front of the wheels on the driver's side, which is precisely where you want to remove weight from. Much better balance.
I hadn't thought about getting extra air. If you have an aftermarket cone filter that just sits up beside the manifold, removing the battery looks like it would help, but if you have a proper cold air setup, it should drop below the battery anyway.

problem with the battery in the rear is if you go to the track you HAVE TO have a external kill switch for the vehicle and a "firewall" between the 2
also you have to have a APPROVED box for the sactioning body

I didn't know about the external kill switch. That sucks. The only events I've run are local AutoX, but they require rear batteries be sealed, strapped down and vented.

It depends if you're drag racing or autocrossing.

If you're intent is to drag your Accent, I think you have bigger problems than where you're battery is located.

I totally agree.

There's no problem with relocating the battery as long as you do it right.
I'm either relocating mine or going with a lightweight racing battery. It'll be partly for weight distribution, and partly to make room for things in the engine bay.
