Hyundai Accent Forum The Hyundai Accent Forum. Hyundai's little champ. While the Hyundai Accent and Hyundai Excel may be small, they respond very well to aftermarket modifications and is among the favorites for Hyundai tuners.

the delta? Come on? the delta is a piece of crap motor. My 03 elantra has smoked auto v6 tibs. I'm gonna boost the beta so I can make around 300 whp. I want a 10 second car. It's doable

The Delta isn't a crap motor. Hyundai autos are crap transmissions for sure though.

The Theta is the most promising engine Hyundai makes though.

for a 6 cylinder the power output (stock) is laughable....... Yes the theta 2.0l is the most promising engine to date but it isn't in any production cars yet. the 2.4l is in the new sonatas and they, when mated to the 5spd, are an awesome engine.

I disagree that the power output is laughable. It's less than in a lot of cars, but they're generally more expensive cars using newer tech. The Delta's design was outdated already before it ever made it into a car, that's a fact, but there are a lot of worse engines. Look at what a GM 2.8l puts out for example, and that's from a heavy iron block engine. The only 2.7l V6 Honda made put out 170hp.

The Delta is a good enough engine to make the GK a fun car to drive. Ours made 161hp & 169lb/ft of torque at the wheels bone stock which was about 30 less hp than the 260hp Nissan Altima SE-R 3.5L that was there that day made at the wheels. Sure 30hp is a lot, but it's not the 90ish that it's supposed to be. Torque was even closer, I think the SE-R made 184lb/ft that day. I have a lot of people that have been there and seen what our Delta equipped GK can beat.

Comparing your 5 speed Elantra to an auto GK V6 isn't fair, an automatic Elantra makes between 95-105hp at the wheels while a manual Elantra makes around 115-120hp at the wheels. My Accent and a V6 Tib automatic are neck and neck, almost exactly the same acceleration, but the manual V6 Tibs walk away from me in the Accent like I'm not trying.

I'm not a big supporter of the Delta, the Lambda should have gone in the Tib immediately after it was introduced, it's a better engine all around. A Theta base model with a Lambda GT would be a much better combo. The Delta gets a bad rap though. It's a really torquey engine and it likes to rev. It is a very pleasant engine from a driver's POV. Of course I always want more power, but it's not like the GK is a gutless pig either.

My elantra is an automatic. I/H/E are the only performance mods and I can walk on auto v6 tibs. I could jog and play catch up with the manual trans though. I'm not saying the delta is 100% crap I'm saying for the delta to be in a "sporty car class" with the likes of a mitsubishi eclipse v6 6 speed (which is a god awful ugly car IMO) it's mediocre at best.

I Love Tibs, I think they look good and if setup right they handle great. But for I'd rather look slow and go fast than I would look fast and go slow.

another reason why lc accent's dont' benefit much from interior gutting is because most of it's interior pieces and panels are made of cheap light plastic..where the vw use's thick padded and insulated interior pieces that add weight

How much original car do you want left ?

I would not suggest getting a carbon fiber hood. Take yours off and feel it. It's really not that heavy so I don't think a CF hod would be worth the money.

Passenger seat needs to go, the back seat cushion weighs nothing, the backrest of the back seat should go if you take the cushion out anyways, but you may already not have that.

There is little noise insulation so not much of that to rip up and the interior plastics weigh next to nothing.

If you are serious about weight reduction I would take out PS pump, ALL aircon components, and if you can take the plunge, take out the dash. Its not THAT heavy but it's a good portion of the interior.

I would say the most feasible things to do are take out the pass seat and all ac components.

It's hard to really take a lot off as people have said and still keep it a daily driver with moderate comforts.
