Default a/t problem on hills?

this isn't for a tib, but i think the problem is general enough that you guys could help. this girl i know has an 80-somthing buick with an auto. evertime she's on a hill, like at a stop light, once she takes her foot off of the brake to give it some gas, it rolls back a little bit, like the torque converter isn't holding on the hill too well. any suggestions?

Check the tranny fluid level, replace the tranny fluid. Replace the tranny filter.

However...I don't think any of that will help. On 1980's era cars, that is 100% normal. At least from the old 1980's vintage GM auto-tragics I drove, that was normal.

Yup, the '83 Pontiac Grand Lemans I drove into the ground before getting my Tib did that--it would roll back up to 6" if I didn't hit the gas hard. It only had about 25K miles on it, the tranny was in good shape(was previously my grandparents' sunday driving car). If it's rolling back more than a foot there's something more happening, but it's likely just age and wear. It's probably really an issue unless it's also not engaging right away & slamming into gear when it does. You'll know if that's happening though, it tends to whine then feel like someone rear-ended you when it engages.
