Is this normal?
ok here is the deal. past few weeks its been really really cold(around -5 C).
and in this past weeks(durrign cold weather) my engine squeaked(belts i guess) about 3 times for few seconds adn then went away(at realy cold start below freezing)
also ticking noise has been comming from teh engine (which i can hear from inside the car) not too loud but noticeble. I heard that tahis happens when car burns oil or something liket that so i check my oil and it is fine on "F" and i still have 800 milles till next change.(i may be wrong but i think this seems to happen in cold weather ... or i jsut dont listen.)
my car has 7755 milles now
and last thing is i got kinda like ticking but very rapid noise commign from IM / injectors area...are they suppose to do that? i never noticed this before. it was dark so i couldnt really trace the sound.
PS car was warmed at the time when all noises appeared(excent first)
do you think i should get this checked out? i am really low on cash and dont know waht to do.

My 03 Tibby will do that squeaking occassonally when it's very cold and it does seem to originate from the serpintine belt. I don't know if it's caused by condensation on the belt or what. As for the ticking noise that could be any number of things.
well, the ticking could be one of three things: 1) your injectors 2) your rocker arms (not sure if the accent's have them) 3)your hla's. if it's any of these things, don't worry about it. as far as the belts squeaking, make sure the tension is right and get some belt dressing. last time i looked, it was $.99 at discount auto for a little packet.
hydrolic lift adjuster (?)
basically little oil-filled balloon thignies that match your rocker arms on your cam, so that your cam's can be cushioned and don't wear away. If they're a little off sync, then you may get some ticking.

is that bad if they are off sync?

It's not being off-sync that causes the ticking, it's lack of oil during a cold start.
The oil (as Random put it) has the consistency of toothpaste on those cold mornings. The HLA's work by filling with oil and swelling to fill the gap between the cam and the valve. Since the oil is thick and doesn't flow well (until it heats up and then it's fine) those HLA's will tick (and not open the valves as far as they should be).
If the ticking persists even after the car warms up, you may have a bad HLA, be low on oil, or have bad oil that has gummed up.
As for the belts: older belts squeal, especially when cold. If they squeal when the car is warm, it may be time to replace them, but a little belt dressing (essentially armor-all for belts) should fix it.
hope this helps,
ac

a cheap way to solve some of your problems is to buy a packet of belt dressing (i think it's like $.99) and some fuel injector cleaner. this should cost you about $5-8 all together, and if it doesn't help, it won't hurt.
Mine squeeks as well i posted about it a few days ago to see if anyone had the same problem. Its not really a squeel just a constant squeek. Ill have to see if we get this belt dressing in the uk as it might be that but as i said its not a squeel dust a squeek
