Insurance Rates
Right now I pay $285 CDN a month for insurance on my Accent. That's with a clean driving record, I turned 21 in September; I was paying $305, but it dropped in October {because I'm now 21}
I was wondering what everyone else pays for their Accent, Elantras, Tiburons, and so on.
I found out today that my employers will be giving us 3%/yr for the next three years, plus an adding dollar at the beginning of this year. So by the time 2003 hits, I'll be making $18.36, that's $1.51 more than what I've made since I became a crane operator. With the extra cash I'm seriously considering getting myself a 2003 Elantra. I was just trying to find out what kind of insurance premiums I would have to look forward to.
Thanks.

Insurance rates are STRONGLY based on where you live. For example, Phoenix Arizona has much higher insurance rates than Los Angeles. New Jersey has the highest Auto Insurance rates in the USA. Middle of nowhere Wyoming probably has the cheapest!
Also, the level of liability you choose strongly affects your rates. Ditto for the deductable.
Raise your Deductable to $1000. You won't make a claim under $1000 anyway. Sure, you'll loose $1000 if you car is ever totaled...but you don't PLAN on doing that now do you?
I pay $175 a month for 250000,1000000,500000 plus $4000 of aftermarket parts support for my tibby
I pay $150 a month for 250000,1000000,500000 with no aftermarket support for the elantra.
I also have 2 motorcycles insured with the same company...plus my renters insurance...so I get serious multi policy discounts.
I'm also in my mid 30's (yeah...I'm old) and garage my cars and motorcycles. All of that helps to drop the insurance rates.

Also depends on what you drive.
If you drive a late model Honda Civic or Acura Teg here in Hawaii your insurance will sky-rocket. Auto-theft is up 10% on the island and the top 2 cars being picked are the 2 I mentioned.
I pay $67 a month for full coverage, R/A, rental reimbursement and most of the other doodads.

The thing that irritates me the most is that my Accent is considered a Sports Coupe because it only has two doors. That's rediculous. Shouldn't the power of the vehicles reflect on the insurance some where. I know my insurance broker didn't request any of that information. Though, it is probably on their system.
I'm thinking that if, say, my insurance drops 40 bucks a month for a new Elantra, add that amount to my montly raise of $240/month, I should be able to afford an Elantra.
I'm going to go over to my broker's, and my Hyundai dealership tomorrow and do some number crunching. The only downfall I see is that I still have 36 months exactly left of payments on my Accent {owing approx. 12000-13000} I'm afraid I'll be putting myself behind the eight ball by getting out of the purchase agreement. Doesn't hurt to find out though.
Has any body 'switched' cars at thier dealership?

I pay $165/month right now for my Tib, full replacement cost coverage, couple million liability, $300 deductible (used to be $100 comprehensive, $200 collision before they upped their rates). Used to pay $135 before the rate hike, and I expect it'll go up another $20 or so when they hike it again.

I'd give my left nut to only pay $165/month...
I'm going to find out for sure tomorrow...
I'm going to adjust a few things to try and make it close to $50 less than what I pay now, probably by increasing my deductable to $1000 like someone suggested and I have to make sure I don't get sucked into the same thing twice. Which is what happened with my Accent. I have Road side assistance through both my insurance and with my purchase agreement... no need for that crap. The moeny I'd save not having that stuff I could use for when I actually need it.

Im 24yrs old, living in Louisiana...I also have two tickets on my record but, I pay 308.40 a month with State Farm. My insurance went from 137 month on a 2000 Focus ZX3 to 308 on my Tiburon frown
Its going to cost me $11 more a year to insure the Elantra, that's what, 90cents more per month. I had to increase both my Collision and Comprehensive to $1000 each to keep it that low. I don't smoke or anything, its not a problem for me to save up the money, but insurance sure is a PITA!
