installing H4 HID's right now, have a few quick questions!

Default installing H4 HID's right now, have a few quick questions!

I am installing my H4 HID conversion kit, with a relay, that I bought from Diode Dynamics. I have everything installed. but have 2 quick questions.



1. Since I am installing a relay kit, the relay plugs into the ballast. Does that mean that one of the three plugs from the new HID bulb gets plugged into nothing? I know I have to connect the other two.



2. The connector that plugs into the stock headlight plug in the relay harness (H4) has two extra wires (brown and white) coming out of the plug?? Do they connect to anything or do I just leave them? THIS IS WHAT IS REALLY CONFUSING ME?





I'm in the middle of the install now and hope to go for a nice BRIGHT drive tonight. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT - So I hooked everything up (except the plugs and wires listed above) and the HIDs work. But my daytime running lights and hi beams don't work. Also, when the running lights are supposed to be on I can hear a humming noise from under the hood? When the high beams are supposed to be on I get nothing?

Pics would help, I installed a basic HID kit for my buddies 06 Tundra a month ago. It came with the ballast/converter box, bulbs and parts to make a harness. It was a non high beam kit, maybe you got the same and that's why you don't have high beams. the "build a harness" pieces connected to the former light bulb plug and the ballast/converter box. From the box came to wires to connect the new HID bulbs that also had wires coming off of it. It was really basic and simple. Not sure why you need relays but this conversion did knock out his fog lights for some weird reason. I'm positive it had to do with no high beam connection because we plugged the old headlight back in just on one side and the fogs were back to working. We found away around this.



As for the daytime running light, I bet it has something to do with the missing high beam leg that plagued me on the Tundra. Plug one of the old bulbs back in to its original harness and see if running lights return.

So, just thought I'd give an update to this thread. Everything is working now. Those 2 extra wires on the relay harness were for the high beams / running lights. I cut and hooked up the wires, I had to run extra wires to the passenger side to get that side working. I am a little disappointed that the high beams are only Halogen. It say's that in the listing on the site.... I wasn't paying attention. My bad. It would have been nice to have some sort of detailed instructions, this kit was not "plug and play". I wish I had bought a kit with HID lows AND highs. There are other kits on the market for the same price with that option. Live and learn I guess.



Overall, I give this product a 3 stars out of 5. I love the looks of the HIDS, but the high-beams are pretty much useless now. Lesson is, don't get too excited when ordering new parts online, cause you forget to read the description and end up disappointed in the end.

i just hooked up a h4 kit yesterday in my buddys bike. the h4 does have a little more wiring then the h7 in my tib. but if you just start hooking everything together the only extra stuff is a power and then each bulb has its own ground. just take your time and its easy

Unless you use your highs for a long time, it's useless to have HID highs. You can't really flash them the same as halogens due to warm-up time.

I do travel a lot of back-roads. The HIDs are bright, don't get me wrong, it just sucks the highs are halogen. My fault, I should have read the product description better before buying. Next set I buy (for any future car) will have HIDs for both highs and lows.



No problems with cars flashing me, but some SUVs flash. Seems like people sitting higher up are annoyed by my lights. I drove behind my wife the other night. She said she looked in her mirror and was blinded for a second or two! LOL! Haven't been directly behind a cop at night yet, but have driven past a few with no problems. I see LOTS of other cars on the road with HID conversions, so I'm not too worried. I paired the HIDs with yellow fogs, I like the look, but noticed that HIDs and yellow fogs seem to be the norm right now. LOL! Oh well. I'll post some pics soon.

You might need to align your lights if you are blinding folks up high.



Get another set of HIDs and install them for your highs. Run all of them at once and it would be like driving in the daytime

^^^ but forget about flicking your highs...



Been there, own that, have 2 55W kits in my car now, high and low.



It can be seen on a white wall from 30 feet away in bright sunlight!

Pleasepleasepleasepleeeeaaaaase align your lights. Honestly, I get so buttmad when I'm blinded by poorly aimed headlights. It takes like five minutes to do it right.



If you are lighting up the back window of the car in front, or if you are illuminating street signs before they do... you're doing it wrong.
