Default I blame crappy HYUNDAI for this one

Hey guys, I know you're like "WHAT!?!?!" But here's the deal... I have a 5 mth old Tibby '01 and guess what... Friday night it was crashed... know why? The car didn't respond.... ABS my foot... four wheel disk brakes... whatever... we all know HYUNDAI is top of the line material (HA!), but when I spend a good chunk on monthly payments, I expect my money's worth. The car didn't respond even when manually pumping the brakes, and to make matters worse, when I turned the wheel to avoid a collision, the car still did not respond... instead it continued on it's merry way... GREAT CAR HYUNDAI! Sniff sniff... smells like a law suit.

Oh yes, and I forgot to mention everything that's going wrong with the car... even before the accident!
1. brake light won't shut off
2. trunk light stays on unless trunk is beat to death
3. wipers work when they wish to
4. a/c works more often than not, but the NOT is still there
5. the screw covers on the door pop off
6. engine makes a ticking sound (checked oil and took to shop)
7. gears pop out at times

OH YES AND WE MUSTN'T FORGET THAT OUT TRUSTY TIBURONS ARE MADE OF STYROFOAM!!! YES LADIES AND GENTS, YOUR BUMPER IS STYROFOAM, AND GUESS WHAT!!! THE AIR BAGS DON'T DEPLOY!!! OH AND I MUST ADD THAT THE SEATBELTS BECOME EXTREMELY LOOSE IN A COLLISION, ALTHOUGH THEY CHOKE WHEN NORMAL DRIVING!!!

TALK ABOUT DISSATISFACTION!

Well Sucia, lets break it down:

I don't really think it was the cars fault. I could stand corrected if u don't have ABS or if u did try to drive out of it, but if not then this is why u crashed according to what u posted:

If your tib has ABS, then U made the misake. With an ABS system u are only supposed to apply steady pressure to the brake and NOT pump it. If you pump an ABS system u ruin the system and make braking less effective then a system without ABS. The pump action totally defeats the purpose of the ABS system. The system is there to do the pumping for u.

On top of that if you were trying to turn the car out of the slide u should have accelerated. You have a front wheel drive car and the best way to get out of a slide is to turn into it and gradually accelerate. The car will pull itself in the direction u are turning.

Complaints u listed (1-5) go on a car to car basis, so i can't say anything about that. The ticking noise is something that all or most Hyundai motors do. Don't worry about it.

As far as the bumpers; they are 5 mhp bumpers so they have styrofoam to make it bounce back. And in case u didn't know all cars including BMW, BENZ, and Lexus have styrofoam in their bumpers. Not a big deal.

As far as the airbag, if it didn't deploy then there must have been not enough damage and the impact must not have been that great....and isn't that a [i]good[i/] thing??!!

I'm not a car expert but if you claim that your abs didn't work, look at your other complaints. Kinda looks like you might have had an electrical problem before your crash. I'm not trying to blame you. I feel ya, I crashed my tib nearly totaling it. Anyways sounds like there could of been some warning signs of electrical failure, that you should of taken care of that might of prevent this whole thing.
I'm not saying I'm right, but this is my $.02

In contrast...I gotta say I've felt nothing but safe in my Tib. It's been through one minor fender-bender and one much more substantial collision, and it did all the right things both times. Major collision, the belts tensioned and the airbags went off, and I walked away. Damage was about $6,000, so the car did all the right things, crumpled where it was supposed to, but wasn't totalled. Minor fender-bender, no need for airbags, ABS did it's job and stopped me. Too bad the other car didn't stop soon enough... Yes, the bumpers do have foam padding in them. Like it was said, those are just the slow impact bumpers...they're supposed to be that way, so you don't get whiplash when you coast too fast into a light post at the grocery store. The cars are NOT cheaply made...if you wanna feel afraid of a cheap plastic car, take a look at the New Beetle or any Saturn. Beetles are about 50% plastic body moulding...some Saturns are 100% plastic body.

I agree with the suggestion of there having been other electrical problems. If there were so many of them, why hadn't you taken it back to the dealer? Why'd you just sit on them and complain rather than get them fixed? All the problems you listed would have been more than amply covered by that 5 year bumper-to-bumper warranty....use it! Or did you not spend the money to get it?

Not flaming you....it does sound like you had a sub-par Tiburon. But the duty to have it taken care of is yours.

Uh...one more thing to add, Ill_Antra covered it fairly well.

If your BRAKE light was lite up 24x7, then something was WRONG WITH YOUR BRAKES! Your owners manual should state that if the BRAKE light stays on, take it in for service straight away.

The BRAKE light being on all the time was your warning that something was wrong with your brakes, or you were driving around with the emergency brake up 24x7. Either way, a quick trip to the dealer would have resolved it.

The other problems you mentioned at all fairly easy fixes, that a day at the dealer could have resolved, with the possible exception of the car poping out of gear. That in itself should have warranted a trip to the dealer, assuming NONE of the other problems were happening.

(BTW..the ticking is a 100% normal sound, and goes away over time, it is simply the exhaust and engine heat shields heating and expanding, then cooling and contracting)

You can try to sue someone over this, but you had better have about 20 or 30 service tickets from your local dealership indicating that you keep taking the car in to get it fixed, and the dealer sent out without repairing anything.

Lastly...moving to FLAME.
