Default Help with catback

Hi,
I've got a Sebring Rear Section Exhaust and I'm waiting for my SR Header to arrive, and my question is what exactly should I do with the midpipe section?? do I have to keep the catalic converter and what are the other small (muffler type things)in the midpipe are they important. I don't want a very loud muffler as I don't want cops on my tail!( Sorry, I'm not so good in the exhaust section).

I am not sure about 97' Tiburon but on my 2001 Tiburon there are two cats. To install SR header, you have to remove one cat is vertically located. You have to keep the horizontal cat. You should get custom 2.25" or 2.5" midpipe.

That small muffler type thing is a resonator. If you remove it, your exhuast will produce louder sound. However you HAVE to remove it since your custom exhaust and stock resonator won't be a good match (You will restrict air flow of header and catback by keeping stock resonator).

If your car sounds too loud after installing complete exhaust, then just put a glass pack.

SR header is 2.5"

I was talking to an onwer of a local muffler shop and he told me that it is not necessary to buy an expensive CAT since every CATs have to be same by government regulatory rule or something like that. Just get cheap CAT that is 2.5"

SR header does not come with CAT...

i have to disagree on that sir tongue.gif

Different cats have different restrictions,... if you go cheap,... you might end up with a very restrictive cat. This is why you buy a HIGH FLOW CAT.

Try carsound cats. They usually sell them on ebay,... if you still have trouble locating them email me,... i know someone who does sell them rather cheap.
