Default Fuel Pressure Sensor 97 vs. 00

Ok for anyone who has seen what I'm doing this is just the tip of the iceburg. But non the less it has to be figured out. This is a question for the gurus (Tony, Red, anyone with way too much car knowledge. Ok I ran the new wires down to the tail lights and I want to put everything back together back there but I found a snag (one of way too many). The fuel pressure sensor on my car is right above the left rear wheel. In a 2000 the sensor is under the rear bumper in some crazyass canister. The one off the 97 has 3 wires and 3 prongs, the sensor on the 2000 has only 2 wires and 2 prongs.

What the hell do I do??? Here's some pics.

the 3 prongs and wires

the 2 prongs

and the sensors 97 above 2000 below

first off, What are you tyring to do? whats with the mis match of parts?

I could not find a 00 two wire to back this up.

When I check HMA, it lists the 3 wire for the 2000 and 97.

But my guess is

On the 97 3 wire.

Red is the 5v signal.
Black is ground
and white of course is the signal

ON the 00 2 wire.

one is the 5v power
one is signal
and it probably grounds itself through the bracket.

assuming random can say if this is true or not.

------------------------

ASSUMING it is correct.

And I am assuming you are using the 00 harness and a 97 sensor.

First thing, I would suggest is, just go use the 00 sensor.

if you cant. tap in the pwower and signal from the 2 wire to the 3 wire. tape the ground wire to and area or bolt around the sensor for good grounding.

I find it odd hyundai would go from a dedicated ground to a non dedicated ground.

I just dont know about using the 00 sensor. The thing is waaaaayyyyy different in shape and I'd have to make a little braket for it to work. Only problem is if I did make a little place for it then it also has tubes that connect to it through that canister under the rear bumper on the 00. Let's just hope I can run the two existing wires and make a ground just to keep things simple.

That black wire isn't a gound I don't think. It has a little strip of yellow running down it and all of the grounds I've seen in the car are straight black (and I've seen plenty of grounds what with installing a "new" wiring harness throughout the whole car). So I really don't know and now I've run into another problem that I'm about to post.

okay. For a 1997. Here's a description of the system

Here's the 1997 Fuel Tank Pressure sender.

The 2000
Description of system

Canister close vavle

The wiring you have for the 2000, is for the purge Canister contol valve

The wiring you HAD for the 1997 went to the fuel tank pressure sender. To incompatable devices.

You'll have to relocate your caniser to under the rear bumper and use the 2 wire connector.

Only thing I've been thinking about is will the ECU from the 2000 even look for that canister??? Or will it look for the canister off a 2000?
