Chain noise

Default Chain noise

Has any one got the problem with chain noise even your car is under 40,000-50,000 km.

are you talking about the noise from under the timing belt cover? webtech has a tsb about that.

What part of the engine does the noise come from? When do you hear it?

The sound come from under valve cover where the chain is and I'm sure not the hydraulic lash adjuster because I've had checked them.

hmm. did the 97 1.6L betas have the same cam gear setup as the newer betas do? maybe the cam chain is the cause? dunno

You can always replace the intake cam drive chain. But I'd reccomend you remove the valve cover and just look at it/examine it. You should be able to visually inspect it to see if it is streched and is showing slack and needing replacement. Hyundai doesn't have any "reccomended" replacement interval for that chain. I can't really see how you could stress it enough to strech it, but I guess it's possible. Only a visual inspection will tell.

Take the 14 bolts off the valve cover and give it a peek.
