Default I love dairy too much to give it up.

So the last 3 years or so my body has become lactose intolerant, which sucks cause I love dairy. Was breast fed as a baby and raised on
milk all my life, im 26 now and have only had problems about the past 3 years. Cheese doesnt bother me but any kind of liquid dairy i.e.
milk, yogurt, sour cream ect. im in the bathroom for 3 hours with the trots. Is there any way to retrain my body to process Lactose or am
I in a world of sh*t, pun intended.

Any ideas?

Im borderline lactose. Never was till I was around 27. Sucks, but there r ways around it. U can take certain medications if that's what u want. I personally hate taking pharmaceuticals. What I did was went completely off dairy for about a month. Made sure it was all out of my system. Now I can enjoy a big glass of milk or ice cream in moderation, 2-3 times a week. If the symptoms return, I go off it a week past the last symptom I had and reintroduce it slowly again into my diet.

Hope that helps. I'm 31 so this has worked well for me for the past 4 going on 5 years.

What tibbytib said. I used to eat a bigazz bowl of cheerios with 2% every morning and it . . . well, it was ugly some days a few hours later. I laid off dairy totally for a while, got it all out of my system, started eating better foods, laid off stuff with sugar in it for the most part. Now I can have a good drink of straight whole milk without any trouble, a bit of cheese in a sammich, yogurt daily @ lunch.

There has got to be a huge body of knowledge, scientific and anecdotal both, on Google, but here's 2 on HA that laid off and then found out "a little sometimes" is okay now.
