Default How many of you actually watch your salt/sodium intake?

I've always said I drink enough water so I don't really worry about it but I was talking to this guy at the gym and and he said if I want to start cutting and getting more muscle definition I should start cutting and watching salt/sodium intake. Is there any truth to this?

The more sodium you intake and store, the more water is stored in your fat-cells. Your body does this to balance itself. That is why food high in sodium makes you extras thirsty. Definitely cut the sodium. Start with soda. I stopped drinking soda and within 2 months I lost 25 lbs without changing anything else just from the calories and sodium in soda.

it depends on the rest of your diet. You need sodium, just not high levels of it. I think recommended daily value is 2,400mg... which a meatball sub from Subway has more than that in it.

Dropping sodium is good, leaving it out completely can be bad. Sodium is an electrolyte that your body needs.

Right now, I'm cutting out all fat and sugar. I'm not worried about my sodium levels, but they're staying around 2,000mg/day and I'm drinking around 200oz. of water.

The best way to cut sodium intake is to NOT add salt to your food. There is already so much sodium in foods we eat, there isn't reason to add to it.

I saw a long news article on ABC a week or two ago that said cutting out a teaspoon(tablespoon?) of sodium out of your daily intake has the same health benefits on your arties as somebody who quits smoking.

Avoid pre-packeaged food, don't add it too your food. Two easy guidlines to get it out of the diet, do not limit your water intake as your body is like a gas tank, too much and it spills out. If you are dieting down then chances are you will be usuing a fat burner of sorts at that point water intake becomes even more important.
