Man, Let's just hope he mis-diagnosed. This is serious I pray to God that it isn't true. I mean, you got a nice wife, double degrees and a good job.
It was found during my annual physical. They recommended I have it checked out. I had a specialist take pictures of my eyes, went through a bunch of different dyes and tests, and has been verified by three separate doctors.
It's the dry form, which may not get any worse than it is. There's no cure or fix for it until it turns into Wet Macular Degeneration (which is when vessels start leaking fluid). At that point, I'm SOL and surgeries may prevent further damage but it's not reversible. Yet.
Since they just found it, I had dozens of pictures taken of my eyes and will continue to track it annually to see if it's progressing or stable.

This is very similar to my diabetic retinopathy, except in my case extra vessels form to make up for the ones that aren't producing enough blood flow, but aren't strong enough to carry the blood so they need to be shot out with the lasers. Now they're keeping an eye on my left retina, because there were concerns of swelling last visit. The pictures cleared me, but I'll be back again in September to check on it.

I have worn contacts since my junior year in high school. I never wear glasses except when I'm home alone because I'm vain. I would love lasik surgery but I'm afraid of the pain. I saw videos of it on youtube and its scary, they cut through your eye and remove the flap temporarily.
