Default Experience with Cortisone Injections?

I have had back problems (2 blown discs) for about a year now. I have been doing constant PT/stretcing/etc on top of working out. The few things I am limited to not do are squats and deads (as good as they are)

Basically, it hurts like hell to sit down for more than 30 minutes at a time, which is terribly inconvenient for driving, flying, movies, etc. And that pain isn't really going away.

I had an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon yesterday morning and he reccomended that I try these cortisone injections into my back to try to reduce the inflammation to the point that the pain subsides permanently or maybe just for a few weeks.

Would this have any effect on working out? Have you guys ever had one? Any reccomendations?
