Do you opt for no local anesthesia when you get your teeth cleaned at the dentist office??
My hygienist always put that gel to numb the gums. Helps with me having to deal with them picking and scraping at my teeth.

Have a good diet, drink plenty of water, get enough rest, and they don't have anything to pick and/or scrape. Then there's no discomfort to deal with. Also, if your dentist doesn't, go to a different dentist that starts with an ultrasonic cleaner instead of going straight for the scraper.
