isn't 9:1 more prone to detonation w/ turbo? If I can get it tuned so theres no detonation @ 9:1 w/ 10 psi or so I'd be happy, and 400 is a great price and sign me up smile.gif

Tim knows what he is doing. But his point is the higher the comp the more likely compression will occur which is true. Im not even going to attempt 13.5psi on a stock engine.

But with a 9:1 compression that drops the C/R down right. This makes it easier to run higher boost. I think that's what your saying Dweet.

Basically this is what the Alpine decompression gasket will do but more efficently, no??

Yes, the lower the compression the less chance you will be experiencing detonation.

Alpine will drop your compression as well but as you said not as effiently.

Does the 9:1 Wiseco pistons have ring lands as thick as the turbo 8.5:1 ones? This would be my main concern. 8.5 or 9 dosent matter as much to me as long as the piston can withstand about the same HP.

Default Re: couple intercooler questions

Well....Alpine(to my knowledge from one of randoms posts a long time ago when it came out) 's kit uses a "thick" head gasket. This messes up the piston quench area somehow, and so head gaskets for compression are more detonation prone than pistons.

The stock compression is 10.3:1
The Wiseco's would be 9:1 which is what most import tuners are going towards.

If you have any general turbo questions, then ask them in the FI forum.

I'm in for a set of 9:1 pistons, if they definitely hold up to 300or even 350whp...

But I have one question... What do you need oversize pistons for (bored up cylinders for more displacement?) ...?
