Awesome find man. Really.

Re: New England chapter
I have a BMWz4 auto dim mirror in my Tib... here was how I mounted it... yours might be a different.
If you take the stock mirror off of the mount on the windsheild and look hard at it.. you will find the "Shoe" or the part of the mirror that mates with the mount is actually detachable from the mirror itself. I took this round piece of metal and because the Z4's mirror uses a similarly removeable shoe, drilled it to take the screw mounts my new mirror uses.. Once it was screwed together, it mated up to the windsheild perfectly. It almost looks stock.
If the autodim is like mine, it does not autmatically go dark at night, but uses two sensors.. one facing the front of the car and one facing the rear,,, when the one facing the rear senses that it is dark out, the mirror looks to the rear facing sensor for light hitting it.. like from a car behind you. When this (more) sensitive sensor detects light and the front sensor detects darkness.. the LCDs in the mirror glass go dark

Well, I'd say wherever you want a temp reading. Your trunk, wherever.

Re: Rally Crashes
Having driven a truck with a tempeture package like like.. I suggest somewhere under the car away from the engine, exhaust, or radiator. Also, make sure it is not attached to any body part that is directly affected by the sun... Your best bet is probably in the driver's side fender where a lot of people route the CAI to.. it is in the shade, you can mount it to the underside of the car where it is not affected by solar heat, and far enough away from the engine you should not have that being a problem.
HOWEVER! Do not mount it to the underside of the bumper close to the ground, the tempeture of the road will elevate the readings.... at or just below headlight level would be best.
