Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to take a moment of your time and announce the availability of the New Alpine Developments Entry Level Bolt-On Turbo kit for the Beta I engined RD Tiburons. I have been working with Alpine on getting a basic inexpensive kit developed and tested so that the average do-it-yourself person can afford to enter the world of boost.
As I said this is a complete bolt-on kit that does not include any type of Head Spacer or Decompression gasket which necessitated removal of the cylinder head. The kit comes with everything needed including four larger (290cc) main injectors and 1 subinjector. The kit comes set for 8psi which has been proven to be completely safe on OEM compressed engines. Engine managment is handled by the Unichip piggyback ECU that has complete control over ignition and timing making for a safe and reliable Boosted Tiburon. The Unichip actually comes preprogrammed for up to 12psi of boost so all that's needed to get to 12psi is a aftermarket Intercooler and piping or simply purchasing Alpine's complete intercooler upgrade kit.
Currently there is also a group buy going on this kit. If 5 members sign up for the group buy they will get 150 USD off the current 2250USD pricepoint. If 10 members sign up group buy participants will get 150USD off and FREE Shipping to anywhere around the world (up to 150USD). RD is not the only forum available to participate in the Group Buy. Folks on newtib.com and elantraxd.com have also been contacted to attempt to reach the specified amount so people can reap the savings. One the required 5 members are met I will update this thread. The same holds true if the 10 member requirement is met. This Group Buy will be collecting participants until the end of January 2006.

Please feel free to browse Alpine's update site and send me any questions you may have about the kit to info@hyundaimotorsports.net .

ok WHOA WHOA WHOA

Ignition being changed with the unichip now? Did alpine hire someone new to work on our ecu?

They couldint get it working before,...

The old alpine beta I kit was set at 9-10 psi and ran like crap with the unichip... Their supercharger kit "which is easier to tune" ran faster in the quarter mile WITHOUT the kit.

Whats different now?

Im sorry... its just alpine has a VERY bad reputation for tuning the beta 1's. I was very close to 3 of alpines BETA 1 R&D cars... I actually had one of their kits at one point. Anyways, their cars all ran like crap. Ask alpine what happened to Rd2 tiburon, randoms tiburon, or yamanekos elantra.

Im just adding a warning here to potential beta I buyers...

Could you please show us the dyno curve on the car they tested on? If they REALLY did work on another car to fix things.. they should have a dyno sitting around...

also... the link you provided with the dyno map is with a beta II. I would like to see one with a beta I ecu...

Not to highjack a post, but is there a lot of stuff missing from the picture of the supercharger kit for the Beta 1?
Shop.Hp.com shows the same kit (?) but no description of what the kit includes. Which by the pic, looks like a lot. And Alpine's site gives a description, but doesn't look like the pic shows all the parts. If it does, then that looks like a pretty quick install!

Its fairly easy, although time consuming...

Still not worth the price...

They never got more than 150whp with that thing...

Is that 150 on stock? Because I have some mods and plan on more. Not to mention I try to do most of the work myself and the turbokit looks pretty involved and I don't want to waste the $400+ I spent on the Hwarang header last year. If I go with turbo I will still eventually buy the airram so add $500, but if I got sc then I won't need to by the airram and I get to keep the header. So I save $500 and don't lose $400. And the turbo cost $230 more. Wasn't that turbo listed at 170 on stock? The extra 20hp and work involved doesn't seem worth it to someone in my situation, imo.

The Entry Level Kit has been redesigned for the BetaI and II engines. One reason behind the poor performance of the past is Alpine didn't include replacement main injectors and relied soley on the subinjector for fueling. This new kit includes 4 larger injectors and one subinjector for fueling. This allows the Unichip to use more of the main injectors under boost. At the base setting of 8psi the majority of the fueling will be done by the larger injectors making more power. Another difference between this kit and past kits is the elmination of the decompression plate. This alone will help power output tremendously.
Alpine has not had a chance to actually test the kit on a Beta I equipped car, but there is no reason power output won't be similar if not the same. The Beta line of engines has proven to be nearly bulletproof given good tuning. Alpine's owner, John Conchie, daily drives the test vehicle and it has proven to be perfectly reliable.
With that said were there to be anyone from this site interested in being the first to try out this new kit on their Beta I vehicle I'm sure some sort of discount could be had.

I'd love to see some results on a Beta 1, maybe we can get one over there for ya'll to check out with the new system.

Only thing is, having a Group Buy at this time of the year is insane. You'll be lucky to get 5 folks if you had good dynos and such for us.

See if they'd be willing to do a GB later next year after everyone gets to see some results.

Unfortuantely, I've seen a few Beta 1's with the Alpine kit, and it wasn't a nice thing.
