exactly what i did, i moved to orlando 2 months before school started and knowing only how to change oil and stuff like that i lined up a job as a lube tech at a nissan dealer which i kept all through school, it helped me apply what i learned in school on the job, so i had the theory in school and actually saw how it was put in practice in the real world

Get involved with building and tuning race cars. I spend a lot of time working with friends who race circle track cars at the local dirt track in my area. The teams who dominate out there all have their own shops and work on cars for a living so you may want to look into that in your spare time.

as far as books, i need something good to get into for when i have free time, recently ive been picking up my car repairs for dummies book and have researched about a car hacks and mods for dummies book...anyone ever herd of it or found it useful?

What is your experience with turbo chargers?



If you're looking into MODIFICATIONS more so than dealership/maintenance/service dept., you'll need to know something about everything. For a modification shop, you'll need a good fabricator, electrician, and tuner if you're thinking of going as far as a dyno.



This is a very well known book. Some think it's too technical and doesn't dumb it down enough into normal English, but if you want to buy a book, I would say this is the most well known guide out there.

BEST way to learn about cars is to take em all apart and put em back together



that being said,



i learned more about mechanics by goin to a you pull it type of junk yard place



you figure out how to do it there, without the fear that if you do something wrong, your car is f*cked



if you break a part at u pull it, oh well, toss it aside and move on to the next car

^ great advice. Pulling a transmission from a junker gave me much more confidence and understanding when installing it on my car.
