187 were did you get that info.? I just checked with 3 dealerships here in San Diego and they all say that you just dont want anything below 130 so i was at 150 they said thats normal, thats about where I need to be.

I got it straight out of my 2003 Accent shop manual from Hyundai. I'll look up the exact wording, but it said that anything under 203psi = fail compression test. They did have a procedure though that involved getting the car up to operating temperature first.

Because only turning the engine once you might have a valve open, its a 4 stroke cycle so you want to turn it over at least 4 times for each cylinder to make sure you dont get a false reading.

You only need to turn the engine over 2 revolutions to get all 4 cycles Wilbur. wink.gif

IDK Fintile, it said the same thing in my 03 manual as it had on webtech. Also, most junkyard 1.6l engines I've seen advertized with compression tests have been between 210-190psi.

Yeah, but 4 is so much better.. psssh..

Yeah.. 150 is super low. The GM 3.0l 4 needs to have 170 psi and it has 8.9:1 compression.

OK im revoking that statement. DOnt get yours done. I got a cal back from both and they said that the same goes for both engines so 203-218psi. They both told me that that dealerships equipment was wrong. So Im waiting to hear back from that one. They also assured me that the results are so close together that the engine is prolly just fine its just read low because the equipment was off.

Yeah, after hearing your numbers I was thinking the gauge might not be working right or something. Either that or there is physical damage exactly the same in all cylinders creating the issue.

I am pretty sure my compression isn't up to par anymore on mine so it would just make me sad to get it tested and find out how close I am to a rebuild or engine swap...

I did one for the elantra and it was about 180 all around. It should be like 230. It made me cry.

I should check out the golf... I wonder..

If ever you feel as if your car as lost LOW END and very TOP end power it might be due to lost comprssion. Thats one of the signs the dealers told me to look for. Either way they said new pistons and rings would fix any problems I am having with the car as of now.
